I know the last few weeks have been tough on all of us. We've all been affected by the craziness that has become our economy. But no matter how bad it has gotten or will get, you always have you! That is something that no one will ever be able to take away.
You have your degree. You have your families. Most importantly though: you have your passion! That is the one thing each of us has that always shines through the storm.
Don't let your passion slide away in this rainstorm. Let it beam brightly to everyone around you! If you can't think of your big passion - now is the time to find one!

I know we all get busy... those lists just never seem to get shorter, just longer. Now more than ever we see people moving more often, even if it is from job to job in the same city. As that happens more and more, we're bound to expand our social network exponentially.
View this as a blessing. Your friends, your network are there to support you. To pick you up in stressful days and long battles.
Take time today... make the time to get in touch with someone you haven't in weeks... or years! It will make both of your days!

I often speak about how we don't do enough for ourselves and I still believe that is true. How often do you take time for something you really enjoy? Well, now is the time to do something for someone else!
Just imagine the impact we can all have if you take two minutes today and ask the person in the office next to yours, "Is there anything I can do for you today?" Or by just dropping a note in someone's mailbox.
You have the power to make someone's day. Make sure it's a positive impact!

I know with the economy, money is tight. I also don't ask for much from my readers. But I have a huge favor to ask.
In less than 30 days, quite possibly, the potential for me to marry will be decided by the state of California. A win could spark court challenges all across the country. A wave which until now has been a dream. A loss could mean new laws on the books, court cases thrown out; especially now with precedent against marriage equality.
This is our moment. This is our chance. It is within our grasp and we must not let this moment pass us by.
I ask two things.
First - if you know people in California, PLEASE ask them to oppose Proposition 8. If passed, the following statement will be added to the California State Constitution: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." We cannot let that happen. Please make sure your friends get out and vote against this terrible piece of law.
Second - The NoOnProp8 campaign needs funds. They are currently being outspent by $10 million. The hearts and minds of people are being won with false information and we have to help. I have started and I may add to my donation in the coming days. Please give if you can. The polling numbers have started to shift against our cause. Against equal rights. We cannot let it happen.
Even if you don't live in California, this will affect the entire United States. Please do what you can to ensure the right to marry for all.

Richard's Thoughts...
Last week we took stock of the things around us... nature. What a great thing it is when we actually stop to "smell the roses." Sometimes when we do that, we can get caught up in a daydream of things we don't have that we want. I believe that it's okay to get lost in the daydream. The problem arises when you get sad and depressed over those things you don't have.
Who wouldn't want to live in the mansion in town? Or have the brand new HDTV? Or win an Oscar? (That last one is a far-fetched dream of mine!) My point this week is pretty simple:
Give thanks more than once a year. Count your blessings this week and let those around you know you're thankful for them. They make you... you! It's YOU that is special.
